AGR Player of the Week: Cedric Ceballos

Cedric Ceballos’ resume reads like one of those Dos Equis Most Interesting Man in the World commercials. Try to guess which of the following facts about him isn’t true:

A. He recorded a rap song with West Coast hip-hop icon Warren G
B. He played the first two months of the ‘91-’92 season with an eye patch
C. He once scored 50 points in an NBA game
D. He currently splits his time between MCing for the Phoenix Suns and averaging a double-double for the ABA’s Maywood Buzz
E. His middle name is just the letter Z

If you guessed “B”, you’re right. He never played with an eye patch. But he did in fact win that year’s dunk contest with a blindfolded jam (hi-def footage below). Born in Hawaii and reared in Compton, Ceballos was taken by the Suns with the 48th pick of the 1990 Draft out of Cal-State Fullerton. He developed into a consistent contributor for some very good Phoenix teams, notably shooting a league-high .576 from the field in ’92-’93 despite being a 6’6″ small forward. After joining the Lakers for the ’94-’95 season, he would play for 5 teams in 7 more NBA seasons, with notable highlights including his appearances in the All-Star game in ’95 and Space Jam in ’96. When he finally hangs his kicks up for good, he’s expressed interest in becoming a voice over actor. Here’s to Cedric Ceballos, a true Renaissance Man.
