The ongoing Spurs-Suns rivalry has been well-documented throughout the playoffs. Especially interesting, from the perspective of comparing star players, is comparing Tim Duncan and Amar’e Stoudemire. While Timmy ranks among the greatest players of all time, Amar’e is certainly among the best PFs of his generation. In fact, both are currently playing some of the best basketball of their lives…against each other, no less. That being said, STAT also goes up against Antonio McDyess, at times. And Amar’e and Ice also make for a fun comparison:
-Both steadily have improved their jump shots throughout their careers.
-Both have suffered career-changing injuries. To be fair, Amar’e regained full form while McDyess did not. But Amar’e had the help of the modern-day Sun’s training staff. Not fair.
-Both are searching for their first NBA ‘ship.
But perhaps the most important similarity, and certainly the most mind-blowingly entertaining one, is in their playing styles. Amar’e is obviously a poster-machine. But remember the young, uber-athletic, dunk-happy McDyess? I hardly do, but luckily we have YouTube! A young McDyess and a young Stoudemire are quite similar, and their videos follow:
