AGR’s 2nd Annual “Big Shot Bob (Rob)” Playoff Tournament

Welcome, fellow brilliant basketball minds and souls, to this year’s “Big Shot Bob (Rob)” Playoff Tournament at Alone in the Green Room. I would say we all have brilliant basketball minds, rather than souls, but I hesitate seeing as some of this year’s participants won’t be feeling too smart come time for Round 2 (I’m looking at you, Daniel Miller and Ollie Hurris). Anywho, the 2011 playoffs look to be as exciting as ever, with approximately 37.8 teams talented enough to be billed as contenders. As I write this, I am watching the Pacers absolutely decimate the Bulls, and I can’t stop fantasizing about an Indy-N’awlins NBA Final. The dynaminc matchup between Darren Collison and Chris Paul would have that backup-starter, former-teammates drama we’ve all been waiting for.

Seriously, the field of teams this year is versatile and goes deep, not unlike Sasha Grey. Of the ten AGR contestants in last year’s championship predictions, seven picked the Cavs, two picked the Lakers, and one picked the Magic. This year, on the other hand, seven different teams were predicted to win it all (LAL, SAS, OKC, MIA, CHI, BOS, NYC). This year’s contenders include fresh-frosh darlings (Thunder and the Bulls), classic veteran teams (Lakers, Mavs, Spurs), and gnu-skewl super-tandems (Knicks and Heat). And then there’s the Magic, the forgotten about 52-win team, led by the should-be-MVP D12, that is fresh off two straight ECF appearances. I wish I could live in infinite universes and watch every possible finals match-up at once. Alas, I am no longer in the Vondelpark.

In addition to the playoff field, the field of contenders in this year’s “Big Shot Bob (Rob)” Playoff Tournament is also versatile and deep. The participants picked a variety of upsets and Finals picks, and they attend universities and high schools across the world. If the playoffs let us down, then the “Big Shot Bob (Rob)” Playoff Tournament surely will not. Without further adieu, here are the playoff picks from this year’s contestants:

The rules: All participants make their playoff predictions all the way through the finals before the start of the first playoff games. Predicting the series winner is worth 5 points. Predicting the correct number of games in the series is worth 2 points (these are awarded only if the series winner is also predicted correctly). The winner (the dude with the most points at the end) gets to either write a guest post on AGR or choose the next posted topic on the blog. The point total for each contestant will be posted after each round–that way we know exactly how far I am into first place. Let’s just say that my prediction abilities have been compared to those of a certain octopus. Good luck to all and we’ll talk in June.
