Ah, the good old days of the 1980’s. I wasn’t exactly conscious, as I was born in December of ’88, but alive was the NBA, so NBD! ‘Twas a decade full of good basketball, good jerseys, and this good game-worn jersey from Kevin Henderson the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 1987-88 season.
No one knows or cares about him that much, seeing as anything basketball-related isn’t even in Google’s image-search results. But I like him. He provided me with the below fantasy of a future Cavs-Bobcats ECF, albeit in the most indirect and time-warped manner possible. When I hear the name “Henderson” or the team-name “Cavaliers,” my mind races five years into the future to the inevitable Bobcats-Cavs Eastern Conference Finals. Former lottery-pick Gerald Henderson will head the Bobcats’ youth movement along with Kemba Walker, and Bismack Biyombo. If current vets Corey Maggette and Eduardo Najera are still there to provide their veteran savvy, there’s no hope for the rest of the league.
Meanwhile, the Central Division, which will hopefully be dissolved with the rest of division-system in the NBA in five years, will boast player-coach Baron Davis and the terrifying twosome of Kyrie Irving and Tristan Thompson. Just think, this 1987 jersey evokes excitement about current players in a hypothetical series who were unborn at the time of the jersey’s production and use. That’s some trippy stuff Kevin, no wonder you didn’t last in the L.
UPDATE: Here is evidence that the man exists beyond a basketball-reference page and a jersey!
