Random NBA Player Name-Checking, Episode 1: Adonal Foyle

This is the first in what I hope will be a long, fruitful series highlighting references to obscure NBA players in rap. Though I guess there’s no need to pigeonhole to a genre. If Steely Dan ever manage to find room for Gordan Giricek in their lyrics, more power to ’em. But the point is, any two-bit rhymespitter can make a lazy comparison to Kobe or LeBron. It takes a certain type of performer to give shine to lesser known names.

Rapper Byron Simpson (aka Guilty Simpson) + producer Otis Jackson, Jr. (aka Madlib) = OJ Simpson. This track comes from their airtight collaborative album. The relevant line, which comes in the first verse, is “I turn warrior center stage better than Adonal Foyle”. To my knowledge, Foyle has not responded to the barb.
